The One With The Pump Blog
You’ve got pumping questions. We’ve got the answers.
Ah, pumping. A literal hero for mamas. Pumping can be an absolute lifesaver, offering an awesome alternative when breastfeeding isn’t always feasible or preferred. It gives you the freedom to step away, share the feeding load with your loved one, and even just carve out a little “me time” for yourself.
Let’s be honest, a lot of people will criticize your choices with pumping, not understanding why anyone would choose to do it. But what they don’t realize is that for a lot of women, it’s not a choice. And while it does have plenty of benefits, it can also come with challenges. Surprise just like every part of motherhood!
Mainly, when people are dealing with pumping challenges, they can deal with things like the noise of the pump, a bit of pain, the pressure to increase your milk supply, the juggling act between work, life, and baby, and so much more. It can be A LOT. On top of that, there’s the occasional (and very normal) worry about how you’re doing compared to everyone else (spoiler alert: you’re doing great!)
With all this in mind, I believe in supporting breastfeeding women (yes that’s BOTH pumping and nursing!), and what better way to do that with some positive affirmations to keep you centered, inspired, and strong throughout your pumping journey. Because, whether you’re a pumping pro, or a mama just figuring it out, a little encouragement and a positive mindset goes a long way.
So, grab your favorite pump (and if you don’t have one, I can help you find one with our pump match quiz), sit down, and let these daily affirmations remind you just how incredible you are! Remember: positive thoughts are good thoughts!
The right equipment can make pumping SO much easier. Some of the top products I recommend keeping around are a high-quality pump, a pumping checklist, a baby feeding log, and a pumping pillow.
I also highly recommend taking The Ultimate Pumping course; it will help you learn how to pump better, pump more, and pump pain-free from first pump to last. The right tools, like a comfortable and quality breast pump, can seriously improve your nursing experience.
Celebrating the small wins is a great way to boost morale. Remember that every single pump is an accomplishment, no matter how much milk you express. Acknowledge your consistency and effort, not just your output.
Consistency is the key to maintaining milk supply and reducing stress. Try to set a pumping schedule that works for you. Whether it’s after mealtime or at specific times during the day. Having a routine can make pumping feel way more manageable.
Pumping can be really exhausting, don’t worry, mama, I get it. This is why I believe it’s so important to take care of yourself. Make sure you stay hydrated, eat well, and find moments to relax. Treat yourself to breaks when you can.
Everyone needs a bit of support sometimes, and encouragement from others really can make a massive difference. Stay connected by joining online mom groups, asking for help from a partner, or talking to me for guidance!
Feeling supported can really help you stay motivated to keep going!
Creating a comfortable and safe space to pump can make all the difference for mama’s who need a little bit of privacy and space when pumping. This can be at work, at home, and even in your favorite local shopping centre. Just pick a spot where you feel safe and comfortable, and make this your designated spot to pump. At home or work, you can even grab my “Pumping In Progress” sign to print out and stick on the door to keep your pumping place safe.
Make sure you remember just how good your breastmilk is for your little one. Your efforts have a long-lasting and positive effect on your baby’s health, growth, and development. While it may be tough sometimes, and a little more time-consuming, your little one is receiving the nutritious milk they need to grow big and strong.
Negative thoughts can be awful when you’re trying to make it through those early days of motherhood in the postpartum period, I get it. But from mama to mama, better days are coming. Amongst the challenges of motherhood, there are beautiful times just waiting to be enjoyed.
By keeping these tips in mind, you’ll have all the tools and encouragement you need to stay on track with your pumping journey. If you’re not ready to dive in fully yet, head over to my blog or check out my Ultimate Pumping Course to get started with your pumping journey, the right way.
